Trafford Centre, Manchester

We delivered a combination of concrete pumping, concrete laying, and rapid-drying thin screed works as part of the refurbishment and redevelopment of multiple retail units within the Trafford Centre.

The project included pumping RC35 concrete using our CIFA linepump to two new steel decking mezzanine floor areas located on the first floor of the building. Due to restricted access, concrete was pumped through stairwells and lift shafts to areas over 120 metres from the concrete pump location. Careful planning and coordination ensured the works were carried out safely and efficiently while other trades were onsite and maintaining main contractors programme requirements.

Our concrete laying team then placed and finished the concrete at 150mm depth, creating solid working platforms for the next phase of construction.

Alongside the concrete works, Cempump installed approximately 3,500m² of rapid-drying thin screed across multiple retail units to the ground and first floors. Applied at depths of 10-20mm, the screed provided a smooth and level surface ready for floor finishers. Over 100 tonnes of fibre reinforced screed material were pumped and laid, with material deliveries and site logistics carefully managed within the busy live shopping centre environment.

The rapid-drying screed system allowed flooring contractors to commence installation of floor coverings within hours of completion, helping the project remain on schedule.
