B&M Bargains Distribution Centre, Warrington
Cempump Ltd was appointed to deliver the concrete works for five new robotic picking runways within the B&M Bargains Distribution Centre in Warrington.
The project involved using our Schwing linepump with over 120m of line, steel mesh reinforcement installation, concrete placement, powerfloat finishing, and overall management of the concrete works for the new automated warehouse system. Each runway measured over 100 metres in length and 3 metres in width, requiring a high degree of accuracy and finish quality to meet SR1 the operational requirements of the robotic picking equipment.
Over 450m³ of high-strength concrete was pumped and placed across the five runways. Due to site access restrictions, over 700 sheets of steel reinforcement mesh had to be moved by hand and installed before concreting could commence. The combination of restricted access, large material volumes, and high-strength concrete created a challenging project that required careful planning and coordination throughout.
The concrete was installed at 200mm depth and power floated to achieve an exceptionally smooth finish, meeting the demanding SR1 surface regularity tolerances specified for the robotic picking system. All concrete and reinforcing works were managed and delivered in-house by Cempump, ensuring complete control over quality, safety, and programme.
